Danielle Donaldson
Danielle shares what she loves the most by facilitating yoga in her community. In her perspective, the aim of the physical practice of yoga, the postures and breath awareness, serve to open us, not only in the physical body, but within all the layers and levels of ourselves. Deeply held tensions, tightness, stress and general dis-ease in the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies are encountered with feeling awareness and able to be released through the awareness on the breath in poses that support this exploration. Consciously moving your body and breathing real big are base level operation, basic everyday maintenance allowing us to thrive in our everyday life situations and ultimately in our lives. When we take the opportunity we have in every moment to treat ourselves well we invite more compassion in so that we can go out into the world and treat each other well. Yoga is a way to embrace a compassionate shift in developing a greater intimacy with our own lives and in our relationships to everyone around us.

Danielle began teaching yoga in Humboldt county in July 2006. She facilitates with an emphasis on therapeutics and accessibility in the postures while working with healing. She currently teaches at HealthSport in Arcata, McKinleyville and Eureka (Old Town), Om Shala Yoga, Oshun Yoga in Trinidad and the Humboldt Wellness Center as well as offers private consultations and restorative sessions. Previously she's offered yoga through HSU Center Activities and College of the Redwoods, Eureka campus. Danielle has specialized training in Restorative yoga with Judith Hansen Lasater and completed her foundation training with Max Strom and Sherry Brourman as well as taken an advanced training including pre-natal with Max Strom working towards her 500 hour certification. Danielle has been practicing with and learning from Lori Snyder of Om Shala Yoga since she started physical practice in 2004. She started taking classes while healing from a series of injuries and surgeries that left her unable to walk for 6 months. She is so grateful for the amazing yoga community in Humboldt County and would like to thank all the teachers she's learned from and explored with, and a heartfelt thank you to all the people who have practiced with her, her students are always first and foremost her most important teachers. Namaste!

Joanne Fornes
Always a dancer & nature lover, Joanne’s careers have ranged from teacher (French, English, Older Adults) to mermaid (college job).  Inbetween she’s been a Peace Corps volunteer, a girl Friday to a horse trainer, publicist covering thoroughbred horses, body worker with horses,  catalog writer (for self-improvement tapes), and Pilates instructor.  She’s been a Laughter Yoga instructor for 2 years, finding nothing releases stress faster than a good laugh.  She’s inspired by Laughter Yoga leader Joy Harden who creates  a incredibly playful context for being our silliest selves.

Joy Hardin
You may know Joy from the Breast Health Project, or from Y.E.S. at H.S.U., or from the Arcata Gospel Choir. Her passion for Laughter Yoga stems from its power to connect people --- some of whom seem highly unlikely to joyfully laugh together. (e.g. people who see themselves as "type A," "old," "rowdy," "shy," "disabled," "penniless students," "non-English speaker")
"Two years of practicing-and leading-laughter yoga has made me healthier," Joy says. "I've eliminated or reduced my medications for depression, pain, and blood pressure. I used to run marathons. Now I can again experience that "runner's high" ---even though I use a walker. My abs are stronger and my relationships more playful. One of my wedding vows back in '94 was 'to be ridiculous and always remember to laugh.' Laughter Yoga helps me keep that vow---and have a lot less arguments with my spouse!

Valerie Vosburg
My name is Valerie Vosburg and I have been studying this gentle body therapy for almost 1 1/2 years.  I have 112 hours of education and have given and received several sessions as part of my educational process.  My first experience was one of complete healing.  As a lifelong waitress/bartender I had developed chronic shoulder pain in my right arm.  I had been suffering for nearly nine months and had minimal relief with chiropractic manipulation.  I was beginning to think that I would need surgery to alleviate my pain when I found a therapist who helped my body heal itself.  When I walked into her office, I could not even raise my hand up from my side because the pain was so excruciating,  Forty minutes into my first session, with gentle manipulation and overall relaxation, the pain was completely gone.  I was given very simple homework as to how to position myself if the pain persisted.  It has been a year and a half and I am still healed! (And yes, I do still waitress and tend bar.)  I am very excited about my own healing and am looking forward to helping others heal.
